Ferro Silicon Magnesium (FeSiMg) is a master alloy used primarily as a nodulizer in the production of ductile (SG) iron. It enables the transformation of graphite flakes into spheroids, giving the iron superior strength, ductility, and toughness compared to traditional gray iron. As a reliable FeSiMg supplier, we offer a full range of grades to meet the diverse needs of foundries worldwide.

What is Ferro Silicon Magnesium?

Ferro Silicon Magnesium is an alloy composed primarily of magnesium, silicon, and iron. Magnesium is the key element that modifies graphite morphology in cast iron. However, because pure magnesium reacts violently with molten iron, it is introduced as a carrier alloy—FeSiMg—which ensures a safer, more controlled reaction, reducing metal loss and splashing.

Typical FeSiMg alloys contain:

  • Magnesium (Mg): 4–11% (primary nodulizing agent)

  • Silicon (Si): 38–48% (helps control reaction and promotes graphitization)

  • Calcium (Ca): 0.5–3.0% (reduces reaction severity and improves Mg recovery)

  • Rare Earth Elements (REE): 0–8% (refines nodule count and controls carbide formation)

Why Choose FeSiMg for Ductile Iron Production?

Ferro Silicon Magnesium offers distinct metallurgical and economic advantages:

  • Superior Mechanical Properties: Nodular graphite produced by FeSiMg treatment gives ductile iron high tensile strength, impact resistance, and fatigue strength—making it suitable for automotive, pipe, and machinery applications.

  • Controlled Reaction & High Recovery: The addition of calcium and REE helps stabilize magnesium, reduces oxidation, and can achieve Mg recovery rates exceeding 74% in optimized processes.

  • Cost-Effective Nodulization: FeSiMg achieves the desired nodularity with relatively low Mg additions, even for base iron with high sulfur levels.

  • Improved Machinability & Casting Quality: The nodular graphite structure acts as a lubricant during machining, reducing tool wear. Controlled REE levels also minimize carbide formation in thin sections.

Advanced Manufacturing for Superior Quality

Our FeSiMg is produced using advanced techniques to ensure homogeneity and performance. We employ a one-step production method that uses the heat of molten ferrosilicon to melt magnesium ingots, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to traditional two-step processes. This innovative approach not only lowers power usage but also enhances magnesium recovery through protective coating of magnesium ingots.

Applications Across Industries

  • Automotive: Engine components, exhaust manifolds, chassis parts

  • Pipes & Fittings: Ductile iron pipes for water and gas transmission

  • Heavy Machinery: Gears, rollers, and industrial equipment requiring high wear resistance

  • General Engineering: High-strength castings for various structural applications

Quality Assurance

We are committed to delivering consistent, high-quality FeSiMg alloys. Each batch undergoes rigorous testing using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry to verify chemical composition, ensuring you receive exactly the nodulizer you need for optimal casting performance.

The company's products are deeply trusted and praised by customers for their excellent quality performance and high-quality service.
