Smelting Principle for Ferrosilicon from Si metal Slag Different from traditional route (quartz + coke + steel scrap), silicon metal slag already contains a large amount of elemental silicon. Inside a submerged-arc furnace at 1600 1900℃, molten Si directly alloys with liquid iron. Oxide impurities float off as waste slag.
This route cuts power consumption and quartz consumption. Yet strict chemical testing is essential to control Al, Ca and phosphorus for export grade FeSi75.
